Planned Giving
All methods of charitable giving fall under the Jewish mitzvah – good deed – of tzedakah, or charity. Yet it is possible to make a gift that reaches future generations and continues the mitzvah past your own lifetime. Often, this type of gift can also improve your own financial situation by increasing your income, reducing or eliminating capital gain liability, and providing certain tax advantages.
These gifts are made through HIAS’ planned giving programs. These plans, each offering distinct advantages, allow you to tailor your giving to meet your personal needs and achieve your financial and philanthropic goals. Smart charitable financial planning can create or preserve income and minimize taxes. HIAS honors these supporters with membership in the HIAS Heritage Society and pays special tribute to their farsighted philanthropy.
Let HIAS assist you in finding the right plan for you.

Charitable Gift Annuity
Immediately begin to receive high fixed-rate payments for the rest of your life (as well as a loved one’s), a portion of which may be paid to you tax-free. A charitable gift annuity is a gift you cannot outlive.

Charitable Remainder Trusts
Avoid tax on long-term capital gains and receive a fixed rate payment for life based upon the full value of the contributed property. Some trusts allow for an annual adjustment of your payments based on a re-valuation of the assets in the trust. Tax savings and wealth replacement features may make this a significant element in your estate and tax planning.
Life Insurance
Transferring ownership of a life insurance policy to HIAS may generate income tax benefits and estate tax savings. It’s an affordable, easy way to make a major gift and a major difference to the future of HIAS and our vital work.
Retained Life Estate
You may find that a gift of your primary or secondary residence to HIAS now while keeping a life estate to use it for the rest of your lifetime(s) is a way to “give away the farm” while never leaving it. The value of a home often can greatly increase the size of your estate and be a probate problem after your lifetime. In some instances, your life estate may be accompanied by a fixed-rate lifetime annuity to help you with the costs of retirement or the future costs of health care.
